A Little June Grass at Topsail Hill Preserve State Park

There are a few small spots of dying June grass up close to shore but you can easily avoid them. I swam for about 30 minutes this evening and the water is extremely warm and saltier than usual. I didn’t see any fish But there were a bunch of gulls. I wore my jelly-proof suit but saw zero jellies despite the purple flags and the reports people have been posting here.

Okaloosa Island

Rob graciously takes the time to report:

“Almost no grass today on Okaloosa Island at Island Princess.  Several sandbars close to shore.  Strong winds and current running West to East.”

The wind is very strong today and storms come up very quick. Obviously stay out of the water. Flags are red and there’s a rip current warning. If you can hear thunder then you are close enough to the storm to be struck by lightening. This happens pretty regularly around here! If you hear thunder GET INSIDE!

Crab Trap Update

Rob reports:

“Beautiful at The Crab Trap Destin.  10-15′ visibility, plenty of wildlife.  Strong current and wind running West to East.”

Report from the Crab Trap

Steve generously sends us this report and pic:

“Small areas of June grass at The Crab Trap in Crystal Beach. Not too bad just thin bands of it. Hasn’t affected the water quality bad yet. I would put it at a 3 on the grossness index.”

Crystal Beach

Thanks to Steve for sending this report and pic from Crystal Beach  (east Destin near the county line):

“Water is perfect. No June Grass or Seaweed. The dark areas are millions of small fish. They are everywhere and are not moving much.”

Morning in Santa Rosa Beach

THPSP is crystal clear! The water is so clear you can see schools of brown baitfish being chased by bigger fish. There were some nice boogie boarding waves. The water is really warm and when I was down there the wind was from the north. However, as sometimes happens with a north wind, the yellow flies were out and biting.
