Okaloosa Island

Rob graciously takes the time to report:

“Almost no grass today on Okaloosa Island at Island Princess.  Several sandbars close to shore.  Strong winds and current running West to East.”

image

The wind is very strong today and storms come up very quick. Obviously stay out of the water. Flags are red and there’s a rip current warning. If you can hear thunder then you are close enough to the storm to be struck by lightening. This happens pretty regularly around here! If you hear thunder GET INSIDE!

Crab Trap Update

Rob reports:

“Beautiful at The Crab Trap Destin.  10-15′ visibility, plenty of wildlife.  Strong current and wind running West to East.”

Report from the Crab Trap

Steve generously sends us this report and pic:

“Small areas of June grass at The Crab Trap in Crystal Beach. Not too bad just thin bands of it. Hasn’t affected the water quality bad yet. I would put it at a 3 on the grossness index.”

Okaloosa Island is Yucky Today

Rob reports:
“Heavy grass and slugs on Okaloosa Island.  Visibility is poor, 1-2 feet at best.  Water looks brown until 200 yards out.  Very little current.”

Update on Okaloosa Island

Rob sent us an update and pic:

“And this afternoon we jumped to a 4-6 range.  Many schools of small fish as well.”

Crystal Beach

Thanks to Steve for sending this report and pic from Crystal Beach  (east Destin near the county line):

“Water is perfect. No June Grass or Seaweed. The dark areas are millions of small fish. They are everywhere and are not moving much.”

Okaloosa Island

Thanks to Rob for this report and pic:
“Beautiful water on Okaloosa Island this morning at Island Princess.  One of the best days we have ever seen here.”

Morning in Santa Rosa Beach

THPSP is crystal clear! The water is so clear you can see schools of brown baitfish being chased by bigger fish. There were some nice boogie boarding waves. The water is really warm and when I was down there the wind was from the north. However, as sometimes happens with a north wind, the yellow flies were out and biting.

Okaloosa Island (near Waterscape )

Thanks to Patricia, who has sent us another photo & a very detailed beach update:
“This morning (Sat Aug 1) I took a walk from behind our Condo at Waterscape  &  I walked east towards the Okaloosa Island Fishing Pier and the Smell of the Junegrass isnt too bad. Thou there is still JuneGrass lingering near shore and further in water is dark. Some people okay with it but Its not what I’d like to be swimming in. There were also alot of lil minnows /bait fish . Again..our family chose to drive down to Henderson Beach State Park in Destin. No Junegrass what so ever just beautiful Azure water!  On East side of Pier water was even worse.”
