June grass update for Walton County July 2nd, 2011, AM:
5-7 on the June Grass Grossness Index. Beach conditions are much the same as yesterday. The Gulf is very calm and about the color of the cheap jade beads sold in craft stores. There is a lot of debris on the tideline, both natural and human in origin. If everybody picked up trash on the beach for ten minutes that would do a lot to help. I saw some decent-sized rafts of sargassum seaweed coming in along with some very concentrated areas of June Grass. It is very humid today, so make sure you drink enough water if you are out in the sun at the beach. Additionally, if you decide to visit Walton County this weekend there is a Burn Ban in effect. Please leave the fireworks, including sparklers, at home. Today would definitely be a good day for beach combing and building sand castles.
PLEASE ENJOY THE BEACH RESPONSIBLY!
