The June Grass Report

Michael reports: “View from the balcony on Miramar Beach – everything green is thick swampy June grass. Very disgusting and disappointing. Won’t be returning”

Jennifer reports: “This is from the holiday inn resort. We have been here since Sunday and today June grass was obvious.”

Okaloosa Island, it has been clear and beautiful all week but today we are starting to see patches of June Grass.

Kathy says: “Still beautiful”

Marcia says: “Hello I thought I would send you a pic of the June grass in front of our condo.  We are still having a great time though at Miramar Beach.”

Apologies if your comments, questions, and beach reports are not getting posted in a timely fashion! The WordPress app crashes my phone every time I open it to moderate a question.

Since I am not actually at the beach I need everybody to pitch in with beach reports for the holiday weekend and to email pics to junegrasspics AT G mail DOT com

We have been getting a ridiculous amount of rain here all winter and spring. This does not bode well, as all the stuff washing down the rivers will probably just fertilize the June Grass. I am not optimistic. Yesterday I was in Destin and there were already quite a few people out on Crab Island but the bay and even Destin Pass were murky with flood water.

We are having bad red tide right now, do not come down! It’s so bad that it is making me and other sensitive people sick. We’ve had stormy seas lately and the aerosolized toxins can get several kilometers  inland. Do not come down until it clears up!

There are a few small spots of dying June grass up close to shore but you can easily avoid them. I swam for about 30 minutes this evening and the water is extremely warm and saltier than usual. I didn’t see any fish But there were a bunch of gulls. I wore my jelly-proof suit but saw zero jellies despite the purple flags and the reports people have been posting here.
