June Grass is in at Henderson Beach & Blue Mountain Beach

I’ve got reports from the POST BEACH CONDITIONS HERE page that the June grass is in at Henderson (Destin) and Blue Mountain (Santa Rosa Beach 30-A). I haven’t had time to go look yet. Subscribe to the comments on POST BEACH CONDITIONS HERE if you want the most current updates from people on the local beaches. Thank you to the reporting parties and please send pics if you have them!

THPSP Morning

Still a 0 on the June Grass Grossness Index. Folks seem to be having a great day at the beach. The safety flags were yellow, the wind was from NNW and the Gulf is pretty calm.

Lots of Choctawhatchee beach mouse tracks in the dunes.

June Grass Update

June grass update for Walton County July 2nd, 2011, AM:

5-7 on the June Grass Grossness Index.  Beach conditions are much the same as yesterday. The Gulf is very calm and about the color of the cheap jade beads sold in craft stores. There is a lot of debris on the tideline, both natural and human in origin. If everybody picked up trash on the beach for ten minutes that would do a lot to help. I saw some decent-sized rafts of sargassum seaweed coming in along with some very concentrated areas of June Grass. It is very humid today, so make sure you drink enough water if you are out in the sun at the beach. Additionally, if you decide to visit Walton County this weekend there is a Burn Ban in effect. Please leave the fireworks, including sparklers, at home. Today would definitely be a good day for beach combing and building sand castles.

June Grass Update

June grass update for Walton County July 1st, 2011, AM:

At least a 5 on the June Grass Grossness Index.  Yuck. Despite the North wind the June grass has come back in. However, the water temperature is nice and the surf is quite calm. It might be a good weekend for kayaking or SUP. Additionally, if you decide to visit Walton County this weekend there is a Burn Ban in effect. Please leave the fireworks, including sparklers, at home.

June Grass Update

June grass update for Walton County June 25th, 2011, AM:

0-1 on the June Grass Grossness Index.  The water looks great this morning! The NE wind has flattened out the Gulf, the temperature is approximately 80 (which is warmer than the pleasant 75 degree air right now), and I only saw one solitary glob while wading at the beach. It may also be a good fishing day; there was a bait ball of 4-5″ fish just off the beach and many smaller fish in the surf along with some mole crabs in the intertidal zone. Do keep an eye on the clouds off shore, the beach is no place to be during an electrical storm, but otherwise come on down!

June Grass Update

June grass update for Walton County June 20th, 2011, PM:

on the June Grass Grossness Index.  The water is a nice pale aquamarine and very clear, with the exception of the stray glob here and there. Hopefully it will stay that way for the weekend.
